NLIHC and other leaders of the Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding (CHCDF) have published an updated factsheet with the latest details on how the federal government shutdown impacts low-income residents and federal housing programs. Tenants across the nation have received notices of rent increases and evictions from landlords. Families – many of whom waited several years for housing assistance – have been turned away from property owners who question whether the federal government will pay its obligations. Public housing agencies are forced to put off much-needed capital repairs to aging, unhealthy homes. Organizations that assist people experiencing homelessness are quickly running out of funds.

The longer the federal government shutdown continues, the more negatively it will impact people with the lowest incomes – seniors, people with disabilities, and families with children. And if the shutdown continues much longer, the impacts on the lowest-income households could become irreversible.
