Your representatives and senators need to hear from you!

NLIHC and other housing, community development, and homelessness organizations are circulating a letter urging Congress to ensure affordable housing and community development programs receive the highest funding level possible for FY19. We are asking all national, state, and local housing and community development, faith-based, disability, and civil rights organizations, as well as officials in municipal, tribal, and state governments to sign the letter. Read and sign this year's letter here.

NLIHC is also circulating a sign-on letter urging Congress to oppose any proposals that would cut housing benefits by increasing rents and imposing onerous and administratively wasteful work requirements on current and future tenants. Read and sign the letter here.

Today is the deadline to sign onto both letters.

Background

Advocates and our champions in Congress achieved a 10% increase in federal investments in HUD’s programs in fiscal year (FY) 2018, despite President’s Trump’s call to slash funding. This victory will directly translate into more affordable homes for the lowest income people.

But threats remain. President Trump has again proposed huge cuts to federal housing benefits that help millions of low income seniors, people with disabilities, families with children, low-wage workers, veterans, and other vulnerable people afford their homes. In addition to severe funding cuts, the president used his budget request and an executive order to call for increased rents and arbitrary work requirements that would leave even more low income people without a stable home.

Thank you for your advocacy – it’s more important than ever!
